For our Spring ’13 collection, we looked to our own backyard for inspiration: Malibu! There is so much about Malibu and it’s lifestyle to love, whether it’s the rich history, surf sessions at Zuma, or waking up to the sound of waves meeting the sand.
This weekend, we traveled up the coast to Malibu to celebrate the launch of our Spring ’13 collection, and brought with us a particularly sunny state of mind. We were joined by Stephanie Gilmore, and in addition, we welcomed an amazing group of blogger and editor buddies to the Quiksilver family.
The day started with our group caravan style trekking up to Zuma, where we started with coffee and breakfast on the beach. Next up? Stephanie took the reigns and asked us to join her in her element – over surf lessons! We zipped up into wet suits (with Quiksilver bikinis underneath!) and after a bit of instruction on the sand, we were ready to join Stephanie in the water.
Next up, we were eager to show our crew the real history of Malibu over a spiritual visit to the Wishtoyo Foundation’s Chumash Nature Village. Quiksilver friend and Wishtoyo Foundation’s Executive Director, Mati Waiya led us on a tour of the grounds, modeled after a traditional Chumash Village. As the Chumash were the first to settle in Malibu, Mati shared through song and dance stories of his ancestors, a truly special experience. The crew shared a picnic lunch provided by Marmalade and made our way back to The Malibu Beach Inn.
After a reprieve at The Malibu Beach Inn, our buddies were treated to sea salt blow-outs at The Salon At The Yard, to prepare for our Spring ’13 Bathers Launch Party at The Malibu Lumber Yard Quiksilver Women’s store. Dressed in their Quiksilver Women’s finest, our blogger and editor friends joined us at the store to celebrate with friends, family, and shoppers over cocktails and light bites from Cafe Habana. Bloggers got into the #BackyardCharm spirit by styling mannequins inspired by their Malibu look. We wrapped up the evening with a group dinner with the Quiksilver team at The Lumber Yard’s Cafe Habana. Yum! Over guacamole, fish tacos, and coconut flan, we toasted to an incredible day shared in our own backyard, Malibu.
