Shane McIntyre’s Words Of Wisdom On Fatherhood

“No man can possibly know what life means, what the world means, until he has a child and loves it. And then the whole universe changes and nothing will ever again seem exactly as it seemed before.” - Lafcadio Hearn

In my experience of being a Father of two I could not agree more with the above quote.  You don’t quite realize the “change” the day your child is born and put in your arms…nor could I put my finger on the moment as time went on – but life as I know it was and still is radically altered- and for the good I might add.  All Parents struggle giving up our “freedom” that we once had but to me being a Father is part of the design of life itself- where purpose, meaning, and completeness are discovered and attained.  My Wife, Shannon, and I, had accomplished just about everything we had set out to do before we had kids – it was an amazing time, a blast, but it was to a point an endless and somewhat empty pursuit.  We didn’t think having Children were a remedy for this, that was something as I said before becomes realized as time goes on.  I love being a Father, I cherish my Children, I love making sacrifices, I grit my teeth and make it through the rough spots, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I can’t imagine my life without my Family, and I shudder to think how empty it would be without them…So Happy Fathers Day to all whose magnetic poles have reversed and your universe has changed.  Let us celebrate Fathers Day – the only day we don’t have to grit out teeth! - Shayne McIntyre
