Kelly Slater has taken a commanding lead at The Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau as competition nears a close at Waimea Bay. Under blue skies and light offshore wind, the world best big waves surfers have been charging like absolute madmen. In 2004, only Bruce Irons braved the murderous Waimea shorebreak, this year Kelly Slater, Jamie O’Brien and Andy Irons have done it again and again. Mark Healey went left and Local Kohl Christenson just took the worst wipeout since Flea’s epic freefall and epic 20 to 30 foot surf continues to roar into the Bay.
