Live from the blazing sands of Salinas, Ecuador, the 2009 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships are off an running.  Watch all the action on the live webcast at quiksilver.com/isa.

After an early morning surf yesterday, our top notch webcast crew of 1989 world champion, Martin Potter, former WCT surfer Troy Brooks and ALAS tour champ, Magnum Martinez along with commentary vets Todd Kline, Chad Wells and Ryan Hakman, headed down to the parade of nations.   Potts has been to every one of these contests for the past 5 years and he said that this was easily the best opening ceremonies he’d ever seen.  The streets of Salinas were packed with thousands of cheering spectators and the world’s best junior surfers felt the vibe – they sang and danced the whole way on the two mile walk to Salinas’s main square.  Each of the 28 countries represented poured sand from one of their home beaches into the giant jar to symbolize international unity, the New Zealand team performed a tradtional haka dance, a brass band played, fireworks went off and we were truly underway in style.

Today were running round 1 in fun waves at La Fae point and Quiksilver surfers like Garrett Parkes, Maxime Huscenot, Matt Banting, Cristobal de Col, Balaram Stack and Ramzi Boukhaim are all ready to blow up.  Our crew is giong strong too – we’ve been stuff ourselves 3 times a day at the Barcelo Hotel’s buffet and no one’s gotten sick – knock on wood.

Stay tuned for updates each day and watch all the action on the live webcast.
