Quiksilver’s Magnum Martinez (Venezuela) was crowned the 2012 ISA Masters division champ after a grueling week of competition at Playa Colorado, Nicaragua. Magnum had his work cut out for him in the final, up against Brazilian Armando Daltro, as well as Hawaiians Sunny Garcia and Kaipo Rojas. The peaky 6’ waves suited Magnum’s surfing well, and he came out of the gates with a barrel and a 7.83 on his first wave. There were several lead changes throughout the heat, but with only two-minutes remaining, Magnum drove through a clean barrel before laying into a snap under the lip and a closing floater to finish, which earned him an 8.83 and the gold medal.
