Almost 20 years to the day since he began his pro career with a win in perfect waves at Trestles, Kelly Slater did it again in nearly identical conditions today. It was hIs 4th world tour victory at the spot and the 43rd of his career and it put him in first in the ASP World Tour ratings – in the driver’s seat of his quest for an incredible 10th world title.
“I don’t know what to say. It’s still a long road ahead. We still have four events and I’m just trying to soak in this win and not even think about everything right now.” About the $105,000 first place check he said, “We looked at the swell forecast and Pat (O’Connell) and I were talking, going ‘look what we’re going to get this week.’ I told Pat that I’d let 105 people punch me in the face to surf Trestles like this and they’re paying me.”
Dane Reynolds put on an incredible show during the entire event and finished 3rd. He won the Best Performer of the event award and is in 4th place in the overall rankings.
Congratulations Kelly and Dane! Stay tuned for much more from Trestles and get ready for the next event, the Quiksilver Pro France, which starts next week!
