A MASSIVE CONGRATZ go out to Dane Reynolds for being named 2008 ASP Rookie of the Year! Although Dane admittedly surfs more for personal performance benchmarks rather than a rating or placing, he left no one guessing as to his ability to put a heat together let alone blow the minds of everyone on the beaches and on the web around the world. In fact his 1st event at Snapper in the Quik Pro Aus. saw Dane throw down one the most dynamic maneuvers of the event, a layback blow tail fin release into a sliding double handed recovery. Without a doubt, one if not the best turn of the entire event, he finished 17th. His season looked a little like this on his way to ASP ROOKIE OF THE YEAR. A 5th pl. at Bells and a 9th in Tahiti. A pair of 5th’s at Trestles and the Quik Pro France followed by an unexpected ankle injury he suffered after Mundaka while freesurfing that forced him to miss Brazil. Dane closed the season with a valiant effort to compete at Pipe despite only being at 20% on his ankle. To top it off while juggling his travel schedule of the tour, he has gained momentum editorially and finished 3rd overall at this years Surfer Poll. Here is one of his latest covers featuring Dane in the Feb. issue of TWS.
Everyone at QS as I’m sure all of Dane’s fans are looking forward to next year to see what he will bring to each event. This guy is GOOD!
