California Firefighters Olympics: Surfing Division

On July 15 and 16, firefighters met at Goldenwest in Huntington Beach, CA to dump buckets in the ocean instead of buildings, as in their day to day, at the 2009 California Firefighter Olympics. The contest began at 8 a.m. with less than desirable surf. In the 1’-2’+ surf range. The Anaheim fire department hosted the 2009 Olympics. Quiksilver supported the crew by providing them with custom Quiksilver Diamond Dobby Boardshorts in Firemen Red. Dave Dufrane of the Anaheim department won the raffle for the Hayden Shapes surfboard, a 6’2” Fibreflex surfboard featuring carbon fiber rails. Despite the less than average surf, the firefighters and their families had a great time. “It’s all about getting together and having a good time,” said event director Matt Gordon. The event raised more than $600 for the fire departments. The Los Angeles county fire department took home the 2009 trophy for the surf division.
