Last night, A Fly in the Champagne premiered at Lido Theatre in Newport Beach, CA. Billabong and Quiksilver, two competing brands, came together for a project that some may call the unearthing of a surfing’s Art of War. Before we were even in the theatre to setup the theatre sold 60% of it’s capacity. Unheard of! Next thing we knew, the entrance to the theater was packed with groms, parents, your local pros and Industry folk. By 7pm the show was sold out!!! There was a line of more than 50 heads scrambling to get tickets. Greg and Rusty Long showed up a few minutes late, along with Brad Gerlach and some others who snuck in.. Lucky they bought tickets in advance..
Billabong’s Jason Jackson introduced Matt Beachesne from Irons Brother Productions who greeted the packed house of 650+ people. We threw some Quiksilver & Bong gear and ran the movie!
It was an amazing vibe during the movie! Hoots and hollering! When it was all over it was a mad dash for Quiksilver & Billabong posters and stickers for the groms! The table was dusted before you knew it!
Much thanks to Kelly Slater & Andy Irons for getting together on this great project!
