Travis Rice to Compete Against Shaun White and Pat Moore this Week at Red Bull Snowscrapers in NYC
Downtown New York City will never be the same after 16 of the world’s best snowboarders, including Quiksilver’s Travis Rice, put it all on the line for the $100,000 that is up for grabs. On Thursday, February 5th, these world-class shredders will compete for their piece of the massive prize purse at Red Bull Snowscrapers. The competition will take place against the majestic backdrop of the New York City skyline in the East River Park from 6-9 pm. The local thrash heavy metal band Anthrax is set to perform. In the spirit of supporting Quiksilver team-rider Travis Rice, we sent Grant from Quiksilver PR as our embedded reporter, to give behind the scenes updates from NYC as the event comes together.
Grant got to New York this weekend – and it seems he’s brought a bit of California with him, as the event producers are scrambling to keep the artificial snow on this massive kicker working against unseasonably warm conditions. Chances are the weather will change however, and things will get frosty in time for the crowds to Say Yes to Big Rice Airs in the Big Apple. Rivaling the buildings that share the skyline, this massive kicker is propped up by 68 shipping containers belted together with huge steel cables, making it look like the nearby Williamsburg Bridge turned on its side. Grant sent us some photos from his visit to the site today, to keep us updated, and share the palpable buzz for this big air spectacle. Stay tuned for more from the city that never sleeps!
Look for updates and pictures this week!
