Tony Hawk Slam from Downtown Disney Demo

July 28, 2010 by Matt Ramirez

This past Saturday, July 24th, Quiksilver hosted the Tony Hawk Skate Jam at Downtown Disney. Unfortunately, Tony Hawk took a hard slam 15 minutes into the demo and couldn’t continue. After going to the hospital Tony’s words via Twitter were, “Pelvic vertical shear injury & a hematoma in a pear tree is the semi-official diagnosis. All I know is: I can’t lift my legs & it sucks.” That was Saturday. We’re now happy to report Tony is back at home, on the road to recovery, and we’re sure he’ll be back on his board before we know it. Get well soon Tony!

Last night Tony got footage of the slam and shared it with the world. If you want to see it, here it is. We’re only posting this video because the end result is that he is ok.

I’m not a skater but am a fan, and these injuries are so hard to gauge from watching sometimes. I have seen falls that looked far worse, where the person got up and walked away, and I was stunned. Here, it appeared Tony made contact with the wall and skated back down, even though he likely wouldn’t be able to stay on the board. So it didn’t seem like he fell from a great distance. Scary to see the quote that he couldn’t lift his legs. Wishing you a fast and full recovery, Tony. :)
