Featured Artist: Tristeza

Oakland, California’s Tristeza have accomplished a lot in their 13-year history, however, they still sound like a band full of the vibrant creative impulses that come with youth and energy. Combining an unexpected number of genres and worldly musical influences, the band’s latest effort, Paisajes, features strong notes of Nigerian Afro Funk, Latin Cumbia, and even the 70s German Kraut music scene. With brief and welcome appearances by inspired horns and quick cuts between sonic polar opposites, Tristeza truly push the envelope first opened by their post-rock predecessors.
