Australia posted a dramatic come from behind victory at the 2009 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championsips in Salinas, Ecuador.  Hawaii, earned the silver, Brazil the bronze and the USA copper.  Young Gun Maxime Huscenot pulled off the manuever of the day, a massive free fall floater on the outside section, but came up just short in the Under 18 Boys.  He took home the bronze for team France. Roxy team rider and last year’s gold medalist in the Under 18 Girls, Laura Enever, took 4th today and earned the copper medal.

With the biggest crowds ever seen at a junior event, record traffic for the live webcast, great waves all week and amazing hospitality from or Ecuadorian hosts, this contest was an unqualified success.  The webcast crew is now enjoying a few well deserved beers by the pool.  Enjoy the highlights, see more at www.quiksilver.com/isa and we’ll see you next year!

Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships Day 7 Update

The surf dropped a bit more, but winds stayed light today and performances were through the roof at La FAE point in Ecaudor.  Unfortunately Quiksilver young guns Garrett Parkes, 2006 Under 16 winner of this event and Matt Banting, who had made 36 finals in a row coming in to this contest, went down today. Peruvian sensation Cristobal de Col rampaged through two repechage heats today only to go down to a suspect judging call in Round 6.

Quiksilver team riders still in the event are Maxime Huscenot of France and Mikey February of South Africa. Roxy girls Laura Enever and Kristy Delport have also been killing it and are still going.

Our webcast crew of Martin Potter, Chad Wells, Ryan Hakman and Magnum “the Ricky Martin of surfing” Martinez are going strong despite long days in the booth and searing temperatures on the beach.  They’ve even been stepping up their game by creating a running tally of overused words and doing their best to avoid saying them.

The race for team gold is incredibly close with the Hawaii, France, South Africa, USA, Brazil and Australia all still in contention for the top spot.  Watch all the action on the live webcast at www.quiksilver.com/isa
