Island Water Sports MIDNIGHT MADNESS

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Island Water Sports killed it this year with the Midnight Madness event! Kids had a half day (Thanks to a parents/teacher conference) and were free to create MADNESS!!! The Quiksilver Denim Engineered for Skateboarding dunk tank had Danny Garcia signature denim bean bags getting hurled @ em, while kids were trying to win Quiksilver Signature Cool Max Alex Olson, Reese Forbes & Danny Garcia Denim.

Deerfield’s skate rats were hucking bean bags & trying to knock the target to sink Tanner/Rohman & Skeeter. Even Cheyne Cottrell hopped in there!

Massive attacks were going down on the ramp & around the promo booths! Big ups to the kids who murdered the targets and sank the crew…

All in all it was a huge day for the Island Water Sports crew & thanks for all the support!!

Have you ever loved something to the point that it becomes what you live for? Meet Clay Marzo, whose passion for surfing is so pure it defies description.  Just Add Water is a visually stunning and emotionally powerful journey through his life. See Clay literally come alive in the ocean as he destroys the waves of Tahiti, Fiji, Hawaii, France, Spain and Australia with his wildly creative surfing.  You’ll also experience inspiring testimonials about his incredible talent from the most legendary surfers in the world. The story also showcases an awareness-raising glimpse into his life and mind as he comes to understand both the gifts and challenges of living with Aspergers Syndrome.

“Just Add Water” is an epic film that dives beneath the surface of one of the most gifted and creative surfers in the world; 20 year-old Clay Marzo.  The film provides a never-before-seen look at Clay’s mind-blowing skills in the water and the challenges he faces on land as a result of Aspergers Syndrome.

Like other kids growing up on the island of Maui, Clay lived in the waves. Clay’s pure love of the ocean along with his natural talent allowed him to excel to new heights, pushing the limits again and again.  A member of Quiksilver’s elite Young Guns crew, his spontaneous, unpredictable and creative style has earned him three NSSA National surfing titles.  His role in “Just Add Water” won him Best Male Performance at the 2008 SURFER Magazine Poll and Video Awards.

Sometimes a puzzle to those around him, Clay was only recently diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome.  The realities of life as an elite pro surfer – constant travel and media demands – are not easy for Clay, but he continues bravely taking on these challenges.

Three-time ASP World Champion Andy Irons calls him, “hands down, the best 19 year-old surfer in the world,” while nine-time world champ Kelly Slater goes even farther saying, “He knows things I don’t know about surfing.”

“It feels so much different in the water. I feel like I’m at home.”  - Clay Marzo

Quiksilver Intl & U.S. Ams @ Angels Game 7/23

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Quiksilver Team Manager, Chad Wells on July 23, 2009

Taking 15 people to an Angel game is more of a chore than you think, but booking 15 tickets on the wrong day and showing up 2 days early is a whole nother story! Team guy (me) did just that and to say the least was running a little high on stress. Alls well that ends well- the Angels came alive in the bottom of the 9th to tie up the game and took out the Twins in the 10th. The International rippers were loving the exicitment after a pretty sleepy game. Aussies Laura Enever and her dad Phil, Matty and Lennie Banting, and QS TM Kurt Jacobs along with
Frances finest Maxime Huscenot and Hawaiian Kiron Jabour hooted, hollered and mixed it up with local lip slayers Billy Hopkins, Derek Peters and Matty Passaquindici. Huge thanks to Mo Daddy Sanford and his son Zane for VIP’n us in the QS Motorhome!
