Quiky East Coast Groms Explode At NSSA #4!!!!!

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

 Tanner Stroh-MAN-gerGeorgio Gomez-Snapedelica!

Quiky’s East Coast Helgie Squad caused a major stir at NSSA comp #4 in bouncy 3′-4′ chunky monkey Melbourne Beach surf. Mauro Diaz from San Juan P.R. was flaring up all over the shop and surfed three different divisions. His style and composure are well beyond his year’s leaves absolutely no doubt as to why he took the crown at this years King of the Groms. Tanner Strohmenger (14yr)hailing from south FL. has noticeably been filling into his frame surfing more man than boy brandishing a repertoire of solid power turns looked the every bit of the guy to beat this weekend.  Both Mauro and Tanner won their divisions respectively, standouts of the day for sure! Another mentionable performance was had by super Vibe Grom GiorgioMauro P.R.'s Next Big Thang!!

Gomez showing with high placings as well.  Tanner and Mauro will be venturing to the North Shore in the next few weeks to hang and wreak grommet havoc and likely take some grommet abuse at the Quiksilver Pipe house with the International Quiksilver Team while getting a little lesson in Pipeline 101 from Reef, Fuller, Healey and QS Pit Boss Strider Wasilewski.

Michel Bourez Wins at Haleiwa; Qualifies for 2009 WCT

Quiksilver’s young Michel Bourez from Tahiti was busy winning the first event of the Triple Crown at Haleiwa, Hawaii in perfect 4ft off shore barrels! The 22 year old Tahitian won in style, with power surfing and a huge smile on his face with good reason, this was enough to move him into the #2 spot on the WQS and qualify him for the WCT.

When he woke up the next morning after a huge night of celebrating his win his trainer got him and the boys back on the fresh juice, just so happened to be a full bottle of Vodka right there! So the boys started again in celebration of the Tahitian at 10am the following morning!

“That semi was maybe the best heat of my life,” said Bourez. “Everybody was getting barreled I was screaming my head off. It was so sick. I was having so much fun out there and that’s what I call a good contest. It means a lot to just (qualify for) the ASP World Tour. I’ve been dreaming about this my whole life since I started to surf. I’ve been watching all the best surfers, like Kelly (Slater) and (Rob) Machado, all those guys. And, right now I can surf with them. It’s a good opportunity for me and all the Tahitian surfers. I’m stoked for Tahiti.”
